After last Sunday’s victory against Botoșani, we are looking to continue our positive run in the Superliga regular season away in Galați. With full commitment and strict tactical discipline, we have every chance of achieving a good result.
Although we have faced the steelworkers several times in recent years, this will be the first official trip to Galați for the team coached by Ilyés Róbert since their 1–0 home win in the 2023 Liga 2 match. In both the current and previous seasons, we have measured our strength against Oțelul Galați, apart from one friendly, always on home soil, and the encounters have consistently been very tight. Fine margins and last-minute goals decided the outcome when there was a winner at all, as the autumn league match at home ended in a 1–1 draw.
In the Cup in the autumn of 2024, it was us who caused problems for the Danube-side team, turning the game around from 0–1 thanks to goals by Dolny in the 86th minute and Jebari in the 90+5th minute. Even though in the most recent Cup clash in December we were defeated by a goal conceded in extra time, it should not be forgotten that we managed to equalise despite playing with a man down, through Eppel’s header.
At the pre-match press conference, our head coach Ilyés Róbert pointed out that the team has been looking increasingly solid, both during the January training camp in Turkey and since the restart of domestic matches, which has given the squad a confidence boost. “I sense from the dressing room atmosphere and from the way the new players have been integrated that more and more positive things are happening within the team. We know our opponent well, we have analysed them, they are a quality side with three or four very ball-secure Portuguese players who give them stability in possession. Their coach, György Bálint, is a very good friend of mine and prepares his team excellently in every aspect; at home they have beaten many opponents. We know a tough match awaits us, but we must go to Galați ready to give everything, to fight for every point, because in the play-out every single point will matter” – the coach said.
In Galați, several of our new signings could make their debut following Arian Kabashi, who played every minute of the first home round of the year, forming a highly effective defensive partnership with Csürös Attila, a native of Miercurea Ciuc and the longest-serving member of the squad. The Swiss-Kosovar centre-back said at the press conference that he was very satisfied with his debut, especially as it came in a winning match. The other debutant, however, was not a foreign player but our 16-year-old academy product, Bota Darius. “I am very happy and grateful for the opportunity to play at the highest level of Romanian football, and I hope to experience many more moments like this during my career,” the young talent said.
The match in the 23rd round of the regular season kicks off at 5:00 pm and will be broadcast, as usual, on Digi Sport 1 and Prima Sport 1. According to our plans, we will also provide a live Hungarian-language radio commentary from the venue on the club’s Facebook page.
