Although perhaps less significant from a sporting perspective, Sunday morning’s ten-goal victory over Universitatea Craiova was certainly a welcome confidence boost for our Women’s Superliga side.
In the second round of the Women’s Superliga regular season, we welcomed the newly promoted Oltenian side to the Municipal Stadium. The match was sandwiched between our two Europa Cup fixtures, so, in addition to collecting the three points, it was important for the coaching staff to see the players produce dynamic, quick and combination-based football ahead of Wednesday’s second leg against the Icelandic champions.
Kollár Péter’s team managed to do that to a certain extent, although Craiova only played with enough aggression during the opening twenty minutes to have a chance of avoiding a heavy defeat.
Fülöp Boglárka opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Herczeg Andrea converted a rebound. Orbán Aranka extended our advantage to three goals with a long-range volley, while Zán-Fábián Panna also found the net before half-time. Vlas Lia pulled one back for the visitors, but their goalscorer collected two yellow cards within the space of two minutes shortly afterwards, leaving Universitatea Craiova to continue the match with ten players.
After the break, Bednárová Tereza’s header and Szolomájer Leila’s long-range strike quickly increased the margin. Ezer Anna, who entered the pitch in the 61st minute, needed just 13 minutes to complete her hat-trick, scoring in the 64th, 70th and 74th minutes. Late on, Antal Anita’s long-range effort found the far corner before Shala Jehona scored her thoroughly deserved goal from Zán-Fábián Panna’s assist, sealing the 11–1 final score.

Our next match will also be played on the main pitch of the Municipal Stadium. On Wednesday, 2 September, at 19:00, we will host Icelandic side Breiðablik in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup first qualifying round. The Icelandic team won the first leg in Kópavogur 8–1.
Our next league fixture will take place on Saturday, 5 September, at 13:00, when we visit U Olimpia Cluj at the Iclod Arena in Iclod in the third round of the regular season.
