In the final round of the Women’s Superleague championship play-offs, Farul Constanța proved to be the stronger side, and we bid farewell to the 2025–2026 season with a defeat. In Saturday afternoon’s match in Ovidiu, played without stakes, Szeitl Szilvia’s team suffered a two-goal loss.
The match was played in windy, cloudy conditions. The final standings had already been decided and European qualification was settled, so the season’s last encounter held little competitive importance for either side.
The hosts controlled the match from the opening minutes. In the 5th minute, Bălăceanu received a dangerous pass, but Fuchsová intervened well, and a minute later Boycheva’s shot flew over the top left corner. Farul kept our goal under pressure, forcing us into sustained defending. In the 26th minute, Kis blocked Bălăceanu’s shot with her hand, and the referee awarded a penalty. Croitoru stepped up and confidently struck into the top right corner (1–0). The seaside team continued to dominate until halftime but did not extend their lead.
After the break, in the 58th minute, Kis had our biggest opportunity of the match, heading a corner delivery onto the crossbar, with Onyango beaten. Three minutes later, substitute Gnaly made an individual run, first shooting into Fuchsová, then converting the rebound to make it 2–0. No further goals were scored, and we closed the season with a defeat.
After the match, our head coach Szeitl Szilvia said:
“In the first half we approached the game with a very poor attitude. We should be glad the opponent led by only a penalty goal. At halftime I strongly addressed the girls because it is not acceptable to ruin a whole year’s work like that. In the second half we came out much better. We had one or two chances that could have been turned into goals, but unfortunately we failed. Football punishes you: if you don’t score, the opponent will. Farul deserved the win. They were better today and I congratulate them on the title. We will continue in European competition next year.”
