FK Csíkszereda earned a well-deserved victory against Politehnica Timișoara in Round 10 of the Women’s Superleague. Although we controlled the match from start to finish, our biggest challenge was once again converting our chances.
Playing at the Burus Csaba Sport Park, the clash between the second- and fourth-placed teams was dictated by our side. We maintained possession and put constant pressure on the visitors’ defense. Most of our threats came down the left flank through Ana Vlădulescu, but we couldn’t find the finishing touch, and the first half ended goalless.
After the break, we finally broke the deadlock: in the 58th minute, following a free kick by Andrea Herczeg, the rebound fell to Melánia Tóbik, who calmly slotted it home from close range (1–0). The goal boosted our confidence, and the substitutions added fresh energy. In the 90th minute, our dominance paid off again when Erika Geréd’s intended cross floated over the defenders and the goalkeeper, finding the bottom left corner (2–0).
After the match, our head coach Szilvia Szeitl shared her thoughts: – I’m very proud of the girls, because we finally broke the ice and scored. We’ve worked hard in recent weeks, but the goals just didn’t come. I only asked them for one thing – that the first goal, somehow, crosses the line. And that’s exactly what happened – said our coach.
She added that the team now plays with greater confidence: – That first goal freed us up, and the second came naturally. We have another match on Saturday, and I hope we can keep this momentum going – she smiled.
Szeitl also emphasized the team’s growing unity and mindset: – I have complete faith in hard work. Only those who work hard get lucky. The players know exactly where we stand and what our goals are. We’re moving forward with confidence – concluded the coach.
