In their second Youth League match, FK Csíkszereda’s women’s team earned a draw on Friday afternoon, hosting Concordia Chiajna on the artificial turf next to the Erőss Zsolt Arena.
FK Csíkszereda entered the competition mainly with U17 players, born in 2009 or later, even though the newly launched Youth League is designed primarily for U19 teams. The aim is to provide enough experience for these players before stepping up to the senior side. Friday’s visitors, however, included more players born in 2007–2008, and even fielded an overage player born in 2004 – the rules allow up to three U21 players. For Csíkszereda, Dorina Tănase and Kitti Lőrincz, who have already debuted with the senior squad, played “down” for this game, although they would almost still fit into a U17 side by age. Beáta Serbán (born 2006) and Beáta Részeg (born 2007) also featured.
Despite these differences, the game was balanced, though the visitors’ greater experience was visible. After a goalless first half with few chances, Chiajna opened the scoring in the 67th minute through Crăciun, who converted a rebound after Heim parried a sharp-angle shot. Our goalkeeper then kept the team in the game with some remarkable saves, before Johanna Zvenyák – born in 2011 (!) and just 14 years old – unleashed a stunning 40-metre (!!) strike in stoppage time that left Petre helpless.
