Our women’s youth team began its very first season in the Women’s Youth League with a victory, as our girls played away in Buzău in the opening round.
Head coach Emőke Berkeczi said the team went through a difficult preparation period, with frequent absences and the squad’s composition not being easy to finalize. In addition, the new league regulations brought many uncertainties ahead of the start.
– In the final weeks before the season, it started to become clear who we could count on and how our squad would look. This league was created to help players make an easier transition to the senior level, giving them more time to develop, as alongside U19 players, those under 21 can also take part – explained the coach.
She added that there is little information about the strength of the other teams for now, but most likely Rapid, Timișoara or Cluj will be among the toughest rivals.
Three-goal victory in Buzău
As expected, the first match of the season began somewhat unsettled, but once the girls found their rhythm, our game increasingly took control. Beáta Serbán opened the scoring with a left-footed shot into the far corner (0–1), Réka Kósa doubled the lead after a rebound (0–2), and Melánia Cseke sealed the win, heading home from a corner kick (0–3).
