In the decisive match of the Elite Cup group stage, our U16 side secured qualification with a mature and disciplined performance, finishing the campaign without conceding a single goal. After the match, head coach Burus Bernát spoke about the objectives set at the start of the season and the team’s development.
A true group final awaited our U16 team in the Elite Cup, as a defeat would have meant qualification for the visitors. Aware of the stakes, the boys started the game with determination and focus, took the lead in the 6th minute, and controlled the match throughout. In the closing stages, Bíró Botond’s goal sealed the victory, meaning our team completed the group stage with five wins from five matches, without conceding a goal.
After the game, Burus Bernát emphasized that the goals set at the beginning of the season were achieved through conscious work and disciplined play.
– At the start of the season we set short- and long-term goals at team level. One of our objectives was to advance from the cup group, and it was an extra motivation for the boys to finish the group stage without conceding a goal. The boys prepared purposefully all week for this match, they knew its importance and the opportunity in front of them. I believe we handled the match with the right attitude, character and concentration. The boys showed mature tactical discipline and were able to control almost the entire game – said Burus Bernát.
The coach highlighted that the goals reflected what had been practiced in training.
– Our first goal clearly shows that what we work on during the week appears in matches as well. The team has improved a lot in positive transitions, which is very encouraging for us. If we can take another step forward in exploiting these situations, our attacking play can become much more effective in the spring. Our second goal also came from a solution practiced in recent weeks, which is a particular source of pride for the staff – he detailed.
He also spoke about the defensive performance and the work of the staff.
– I would like to highlight the work of the goalkeepers and the defense, because playing five matches without conceding a goal is a huge achievement. My assistants Alpár and Szabolcs played an important role in preparing the goalkeepers and the defense, and physically I feel the team is in excellent condition, which is thanks to our fitness coach Ervin – he added.
In closing, he looked ahead to the next challenges.
– Big congratulations to the boys and, as they say, appetite comes with success. We are waiting for the next opponent and aiming to achieve new goals – concluded Burus Bernát.
