Our U15 team also held a training camp in Serbia after beginning their winter preparation at home on January 12, continuing their work in Vršac during the fourth week. The squad spent eight days in the Vojvodina city, playing four friendly matches. Head coach Zoltán Fogarasi shared his thoughts on the experience and the upcoming cup challenges.
– We started this year’s preparation on January 12 in local conditions. Already then we knew that in the fourth week we would travel to Vršac, Serbia, for a training camp, and I would like to thank both the club and the academy for this opportunity – he said.
The coach emphasized that the conditions abroad perfectly suited their planned work, allowing them to complete both on-field and gym sessions as scheduled. – During the training sessions we were able to practice several game elements that we would like to apply in the upcoming domestic competitions – he explained.
He highlighted the players’ attitude and openness to improvement. – As the youngest academy age group, this should be natural. Over the eight days we played four friendly matches, which provided the boys with valuable experience – he detailed.
The head coach also expressed his satisfaction that every player received sufficient playing time. – From a development perspective, it was a key objective that everyone get enough minutes, therefore the actual results on the field were secondary – he underlined.
Regarding the opponents and the lessons learned, he stated: – Regardless of the results, we performed very well in every match, forcing all opponents to put in serious effort, and there was no major difference in quality or level of play between us and the other teams. I was particularly pleased that we convincingly defeated Serbian top-division side Železničar with mature football – he said, adding – however, I am most proud, despite the heavier defeat, of the performance against Čukarički… In that match we also experienced that playing well is not enough; it does not automatically lead to results, you must be efficient in front of the opponent’s goal – he emphasized.
When asked about the difference between Serbian and our players, he was clear: – If I had to name one difference between the Serbian boys and ours, it would be mentality… Mentality cannot be drawn on a tactical board; it is an innate quality. We still have ground to make up in this area, but we are on the right path to continuously improve it – he said.
He also stressed the importance of team cohesion. – The eight days together made the team more united, and the younger players stepping up, as well as those who joined in the winter, integrated well into the group – he noted.
Looking ahead, he spoke about the upcoming fixtures. – The continuation of both the cup and the league is upon us, and we want to give our maximum in both competitions. The cup campaign resumes this weekend with a trip to Galați, and next week we host Iași, where qualification from the group will be at stake – he stated.
In summary, he evaluated the training camp positively. – I was satisfied with the players’ attitude and behavior; they represented the club in an exemplary way. However, their true character will be shown in the upcoming period through how they handle the challenges ahead. I am certain that if they continue to work with the same humility, they will bring many joyful and successful moments to themselves, the academy, and the club – concluded Zoltán Fogarasi.
