Following Saturday’s friendly match that ended in a draw against Arka Gdynia, our men’s first-team head coach Ilyés Róbert, currently with the squad at the training camp in Turkey, shared his thoughts.
“We played against a very strong team. The Polish top division is at a much higher level than Romanian football. There were many physical duels, and we managed to compete on equal terms. There was toughness from both sides, one red card each, plus a lot of yellow cards. I am proud that the team showed a reaction. Let’s not forget that we are training twice a day, which is extremely demanding both mentally and physically for everyone. The lack of points in the league is on everyone’s mind, and everyone feels responsible for what we have achieved so far.
I am satisfied with the new players. They are trying to keep up with the team, to bring extra energy, and they have integrated well into the training sessions. They also feel how important every single player is to the team. I am happy that they were warmly welcomed by their teammates and that there is a good atmosphere within the squad.
For me, it is very positive that what we have been working on in training was reflected in both matches, which gives us reason to be optimistic about the future. I would like us to finish at the end of May or the beginning of June in a position that allows us – to everyone’s joy – to remain in the top division,” the head coach told our official website.
The program in Turkey continues on Sunday morning with a fitness session, while the afternoon will be dedicated to recovery and relaxation. On Monday, the next friendly match follows against Azerbaijan’s Zira FK. According to the plan, the team will train once more on Tuesday morning before traveling home in the afternoon. The next league fixture is scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 PM, when Ilyés Róbert’s side will host FC Botoșani.
