Saturday’s away trip against FCSB did not bring success for our teams, as both sides returned home with defeats, without scoring.

The team coached by Burus Bernát played a balanced first half, creating several well-worked chances, including a long-range shot that missed the goal by just a few centimeters. Moreover, they even managed to score once, but the goal was inexplicably disallowed by the referees. Our players also complained about a penalty that was not awarded, and according to the head coach’s evaluation, under more favorable circumstances the course of the match could have been completely different.

Instead, the home side took the lead towards the end of the first half following a defensive mistake, and at the beginning of the second half a brief lapse in FK’s game caused a disruption in their organization, which FCSB exploited by scoring three goals within seven minutes, effectively deciding the outcome of the match.

Fogarasi Zoltán’s team played a tight and balanced match, eventually losing by a single goal conceded in the second half, but their task was made more difficult by the sending-off of Jánosi Zsolt in the 28th minute, who, according to the official match report, struck his opponent off the ball and was therefore dismissed.

“It was not a match with many chances, it was clear that the stakes were high for both teams. We were set up more defensively, which meant the home side had much more possession, but they struggled to break down our organized defense. Unfortunately, we also failed to create many chances, managing to get dangerously close to their goal only once.

The course of the match was significantly influenced by the red card, which was preceded by a major individual mistake and lack of judgment, putting us at a disadvantage. However, the team did not react poorly to being a man down; after slightly adjusting our formation, we continued to defend effectively.

The second half followed a similar pattern, and there were no clear signs that we would concede, but it must be noted that before the goal a serious foul was committed against us which went unpunished. From that attacking phase, following a cross after incomplete defending on the left side, the home team managed to take the lead.

This did not break our team’s spirit, as we continued to fight hard for an equalizer, but unfortunately without success. I hope this defeat will not affect the team’s morale ahead of Wednesday’s cup semifinal, when we host Craiova, a match for which we aim to prepare properly and perform well. We can be proud of our performance so far, as this is our first defeat in the entire play-off phase, and not just anywhere; the fact that we managed to play around sixty minutes with one man down and still keep the game balanced is absolutely commendable. However, it is clearly not enough to play well, we must also be effective,” said head coach Fogarasi Zoltán after the match.
