Our women’s Superliga team will play its final home match of the season on Sunday, welcoming Politehnica Timișoara. On this occasion, the penalty shootout competition organised throughout the league campaign will also reach its conclusion.

After the disappointments of recent weeks, an important fixture awaits Szeitl Szilvia’s side. Winning the league title and repeating last season’s cup triumph were the team’s major goals, but neither objective was achieved, and according to the head coach, that understandably left its mark on the squad.

“We are quite disappointed because we had two major objectives: we wanted to win the championship and celebrate another cup victory, but unfortunately we achieved neither. Everyone is very down because we worked hard to make it happen. There are many reasons why things turned out differently, but there is nothing we can do about that now,” said Szeitl Szilvia.

The head coach emphasised that one very important target still remains this season, carrying significance not only for the team but also for the club and women’s football in Romania.

“In our final home match we want to say goodbye properly to our supporters, our fans and our home ground. We have to keep the three points at home and secure second place. Let’s not forget that this is a very important step for the club and for women’s football as well, because it is a huge opportunity that Romania can have two teams competing in Europe: one in the Champions League and the other in the Europa Cup. This could open enormous doors,” said the coach.

Sunday’s match will not only bring excitement on the pitch but also in the stands, as the penalty shootout competition held during half-time at home league matches is also reaching its conclusion. The final qualifying round will take place during the break, followed by the grand final after the match to determine the three winners who will receive valuable prizes.

“Anyone who has not registered yet can still do so. Throughout the season we kept track of how many penalties each participant converted, and in the final the competition will continue in a knockout duel format until the three winners are decided,” explained Szeitl Szilvia.

Around twenty to twenty-five children regularly took part in the initiative, mainly from the 10–15 age group. According to the head coach, the goal was not only fun and creating experiences but also promoting women’s football.

“We wanted more people to come to our matches and for children – boys and girls alike – to feel closer to football. The important message is that just because girls are playing does not mean the football is any less good. Football is not only for boys: girls can play too, and they can do wonderful things on the pitch,” added Szeitl Szilvia.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 1:00 pm at Burus Csaba Sports Park  and will be broadcast live by Pro Arena. After that, Szeitl Szilvia’s team will have only one match left this season: next Saturday they travel to face already crowned champions Farul Constanța.
