FK Csíkszereda claimed their first-ever away victory in Romania’s Superliga, defeating Hermannstadt 2–0 by capitalizing on two defensive mistakes and keeping a clean sheet.
It was another historic moment for the club, witnessed by around thirty loyal fans who travelled from Székely Land to Sibiu and outcheered the home crowd. Their energy was matched on the pitch by the team’s performance: two shots on target, two goals – and three points to take home.
The game started with some tense moments for the visitors. In the 15th minute, after a home corner, Bejan’s close-range shot was cleared off the line by Bloj. Thirteen minutes later, Neguț’s cross found Gjorgjievski, who missed from in front of goal. In the 34th minute, Căpușă’s reckless challenge on goalkeeper Pap went unpunished, but justice came soon after: in the 38th minute, Selimović’s poor pass was intercepted by Eppel, who coolly finished past Căbuz – 0–1!
Referee Sorin Vădana added six minutes of stoppage time to the first half, during which Ciubotaru hit the crossbar, but Csíkszereda went into the break with their lead intact. At halftime, coach Ilyés replaced the booked Bloj and reshaped the defense, bringing on Gál-Andrezly and Palmeș. Hermannstadt struggled to create chances afterwards, with Pap easily handling Neguț’s long-range efforts. In the 78th minute came the highlight of the match: Ivanov lost the ball deep in defense, Jebari picked it up and unleashed a magnificent strike from 25 meters into the top corner – 0–2!
The red-and-blacks managed the closing minutes smartly and even gave Noveli his Superliga debut in stoppage time. After the final whistle, the players celebrated ecstatically with the traveling fans, responding to a home banner reading “Székely Land doesn’t exist” by singing the Székely anthem on the pitch.
Well done, boys!
“I can see the team starting to come together, showing fighting spirit and passion. There are moments in matches when you need to throw yourself into every duel and battle for every ball. I’m happy to see that passion growing — and this victory was fully deserved; we worked harder for it,” said head coach Róbert Ilyés after the match.
