Our U16 Elite League team suffered a defeat away to Sepsi OSK in a hard-fought and balanced encounter. After the match, head coach Burus Bernát shared his reflections.
The coach said his team started well, controlling the early stages of the match with solid possession and confident play. – “We had good ball possession, controlled the game, and constantly created danger in the opponent’s defensive third. In the tenth minute, we missed a huge opportunity when we hit the crossbar from five metres, but we kept the pressure on Sepsi,” said Burus Bernát.
He explained that although his team took the lead, they couldn’t hold the advantage for long. – “We managed to score first, but unfortunately, Sepsi equalised quickly with a rather lucky goal. Just before halftime, we could have gone ahead again, but we missed another clear chance in front of an open goal,” the coach noted.
The second half was decided by two corner kicks. – “We conceded twice from set pieces because we weren’t aggressive enough in aerial duels. We failed to challenge the opponent properly, allowing them to score too easily with headers. Those two goals dug our hole, and we couldn’t climb out of it,” said Burus Bernát.
Despite the result, the coach emphasised that the match provided important lessons for the players. – “In football, sometimes you get these kinds of blows that you may not deserve, but they are part of the learning process. Every such match contributes to our growth, with all its challenges. We need to bounce back quickly because in the play-offs, every game is a decisive one, and we have the chance to improve week by week,” concluded Burus Bernát.
