Showing attractive football, our U16 team said goodbye to their home ground with a convincing victory in the penultimate round of the Elite League. Head coach Burus Bernát evaluated not only the match against Dinamo, but also the entire season.
The weekend match did not start in the best way for our team, as the visitors took an early lead, meaning our final home game practically began from a 0–1 deficit. “We had a slightly smaller squad than usual this weekend, as three of our players regularly have to play in the U15 category, and we were also dealing with minor injuries,” said Burus Bernát.
Despite this, the red-and-blacks did not break; on the contrary, they showed great character, fighting spirit and determination. They managed to equalize and then took the lead before halftime, which gave them extra momentum for the second half: “It was a tough, hard-fought second half from the players, where you could feel the determination to finish their U16 home season with a win,” the head coach evaluated.
The coach views the entire season positively, as the team once again reached the play-off stage and performed excellently in the cup competition, exiting in the semifinals: “We were eliminated in a way we absolutely did not deserve. There were ups and downs in the league, but we are talking about young players, where weekly form is not always consistent. What matters most is that over the past two years, the work we put in with my colleagues to develop the boys was clearly reflected on the pitch, and in an academy system that is perhaps the most important thing.”
According to Burus Bernát, the end of the season will likely mark the conclusion of a two-year cycle working with the 2010 generation, but he emphasized that the players can continue to rely on their support: “We have gone through tremendous development together, experiencing both the highs and the lows, and from these experiences we were able to grow, renew ourselves and learn from each other week by week. I am grateful to have been the coach of this team, which became a family over the past two years.”
The head coach believes these young players will continue to provide special moments for the academy in the coming years: “I believe that in the next two years these boys will continue to create beautiful moments in the life of the academy, as they are all players who approach football with humility, enjoy working hard, and if these are present, football will always reward the effort invested.”
In closing, Burus Bernát also thanked the parents for their support: “We thank the parents for their support, for not sparing time, energy or money to be present even at the most distant matches and for helping our work.”
